The Honolulu Armed Services YMCA
The Armed Services YMCA’s free or low-cost programs are designed to improve quality of life for junior enlisted personnel, spouses and children. For more information, call 473-3398.
Family Programs
· Food for Families supports families in need with groceries at no cost. · The Children’s Waiting Room, is a free child-watch program for children while their parent or sibling visits the doctor. The program is available at Tripler Hospital and Schofield Barracks,
· Hospitality Kits supply families in transition with basic household items until their furnishings arrive.
· Holiday Food Baskets & Toys for Tots help make Thanksgiving and Christmas a little brighter for junior enlisted families.
· Operation Kid Comfort program is a program in which we sew quilts/pillows for children whose parent(s) are deployed. For more information please click here.
· Kids in the Kitchen for adults and children encourage creativity and provide opportunities to make new friends and learn skills at affordable prices.
· Family Excursions to the Honolulu Zoo, Sesame Street Live, Honolulu Theater for Youth, Pumpkin Patch, and other locations, enrich the lives of families far from home.
Children’s Programs
• Children's Waiting Rooms offer on site childcare for healthy children while their parents or siblings have medical appointments in any of the Schofield Clinics or at Tripler Medical Center. There is no set fee for this service but your donations keep this program running. Schofield Barracks Clinics Open Monday through Friday from 8:00-12:00 and 1:00-4:00 Call 624-5645 for reservations Tripler Army Medical Center Open Monday through Friday from 8:00-12:00 and 1:00-3:00 Call 833-1185 for reservations
· Parents and children enjoy a morning of crafts, games, music, stories and fun at Playmorning. The low-cost, mobile playgroup operates out of ASYMCA vans, meeting at nearly 30 locations each week in military housing areas.
· Operation Hero, is a free after-school program for elementary school children that helps build self esteem and increase study skills.
· Kindermusik and The Sunshine Generation focus on introducing pre-schoolers focus to arts and music.
• Parent Participation Preschool is a program that allows parents to help their children ages 3 and 4 transition from home to school while working side by side in a fun, structured environment.
Adult Programs
· English as a Second Language classes increase knowledge and skills in adults for a small fee.
· Prepared Childbirth Classes equip expectant parents with skills needed during labor and delivery- low cost.
· Volunteer Opportunities abound at the Armed Services YCMA. Become involved and experience the joy of giving back to your community!
Special Events
· Fall Fun Fests, Breakfast with Santa, Keiki Christmas, Bunny Bash, Father Daughter Dance, and Spring Fling are family-oriented activities that help build a sense of community for those far from home and family. · The Hawaii Wounded and Fallen Hero Fund supports family members of Hawaii-based military who have been wounded or killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
