The Honolulu Armed Services YMCA offers more than 30 free or low-cost programs on or near Oahu military installations. Some of the progams offered are:

Operation hero

Operation Hero targets children from 6-12 years old and focuses on helping improve self-esteem and grades. The free after-school program, which runs for 10 weeks twice a year, focuses on individuals who are experiencing temporary difficulty in school, either socially or academically.

Referred by teachers, parents or school officials, the bi-weekly sessions provide after-school homework assistance and mentoring in a small group. The program is currently bing offered at Mokapu Elementary School. Evaluations by participants, parents, and teachers demonstrate that Operation Hero effectively achieves the program’s goals to provide tools needed for academic success, improve coping skills, and improve self-image.
